park life

Chris Ballantyne @ park life

So i was walking down Clement street with my (visiting) friends, and wanted to stop by my neighbourhood gallery. We got in, but the lock was still hangin' in there from the door ... Galleries never open early, well ... not soon enough for me, anyway!! ;) I like the idea of sippin' mi cafe while enjoyIN' some nice art ...

Well, entering PARK LIFE, i spotted an artist (Chris Ballantyne) painting a mural in the back of the store, where the gallery actually takes shape (and form) in a sort of cube space with huge ceilings. So i don't miss the point of this short comment ;) on Chris Ballantyne's work, this is
what i sawww ... If you are in the Bay Area you ought to come and see for yoursElf! The show is on from Aug 10th to Sept 21st.
I've been into this kind of art for a while now, and i understand it more ... or at least i think i do ... cause i follow these types of shows, i am drawn to this ART for good or bad ... i don't care, i am hooked and not goin' back ... something (maybe) was lost but a lot more I've gained. I find that this collection of aerial architectural paintings, drawings and sometimes pictures are fantastic and very now. You will also see small architectural models and or sceneries in display in Contemporary Art Galleries ... i find these very cinematic and enigmatic ... they always tell a great story. Mentally i wasn't prepared for this back zen ... years ago ... mayB i was lost ... NOW, i've found again MYtrueSELF in these works and I AM HAPPY =) with the discovery ... it's a new place to dig in, kind of a new abstraction. I see an energy that i haven't felt B4 ... mayB it just wasn't there ... The boring nineties ... where everything was valid and OK ... I sense a correlation and similarity from many contemporary artist, something again I haven't seen for a while ... since the 80's, but again mayB i wasn't watching ... Well, I was ... but perhaps i wasn't seeing ...
With this NEW ART, everything is there but nothing really is ... Geometric forms, almost flat ... that take from POP Art ... in shape and color, blend from north to south, from east to west ... and vice versa.
There is no down, it's all UP ... and very UP BEAT ... You can find sadness in some of the imagery, but isn't life a "beach" sometimes?!?. You might say this art is depressing and uplifting at the same time ... like a good chocolate it leaves you a nice bitter sweet flavor at the END ... in both parts of the brain, that is ... if you have one.

jesus
